メガルカリオ：ブルーレインボーホロ【Mega Lucario Blue Rainbow Holofoil】
One of the coins I struggled the most to obtain in 2025 was the Blue Rainbow Holofoil Mega Lucario coin.
This coin is not the extra-large version released in 2025, but rather an “old-school” piece that originally came out in August 2014. I had known of its existence for years, yet in my three and a half years as a collector, I had never once seen it in the wild. At times I even wondered whether it truly circulated in the market at all.
Because it was so impossibly hard to find, I once asked an American collector friend to confirm whether it really existed. He told me, “I do own one, but I don’t have a spare to trade,” which only strengthened my sense that this coin was almost mythical.
This coin was included in the Dark Hammer Theme Deck in the United States, and to make things even more complicated, there is also a separate “Blue Sheen Holofoil” version of Mega Lucario. The presence of two very similar versions made the hunt even more challenging. The Rainbow Holofoil I was searching for and the Sheen Holofoil I already owned shine in remarkably similar ways, making them difficult to distinguish without a certain level of expertise.
To make matters worse, even when you understand the differences, it is extremely hard to tell them apart from listing photos on secondhand marketplaces like Mercari or eBay. Asking sellers directly rarely led to a clear answer. Because of that, I continued calling out for information on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. I did receive a few messages, but none led to a trade or a sale.
What finally changed everything was a message from another U.S.-based collector with whom I had traded several times in 2025. He wrote, “I might have found one on the secondary market,” and based on the photos he sent, he believed it was very likely the real thing. It’s a coin that is difficult to authenticate without seeing it in person, but I didn’t hesitate—I asked him to purchase it on my behalf, and later we traded through the mail along with some other coins.
When the package arrived, and I opened it, and finally held that coin in my hand—an overwhelming wave of emotion came over me. I literally felt chills run through my body. Even now, remembering that moment gives me a shiver.
Had I not been running this website, had I not been connected with collectors overseas, this encounter surely would never have happened. I am deeply grateful to everyone who helped make it possible.
The coin itself is undeniably rare, and simply owning it brings immense satisfaction as a collector. But more than that, it has become a truly memorable piece—one that will remain an important part of my history as a Pokémon coin collector.
The Roserade metal coin was also, without question, one of the most difficult coins I obtained in 2025.
This coin was originally available at the World Championships held in London in 2022. Even though it’s relatively recent, the fact that it was “exclusive to an overseas event” immediately raises the difficulty of acquiring it.
And more importantly, it was distributed only to event staff—not sold to the public. That alone makes it incredibly hard to obtain. Naturally, someone like me, with no connections to event organizers, would never come across such a coin through ordinary means.
However, we now live in an age where you can learn about collectibles from around the world and, if you’re willing to pay, purchase them through services like Mercari or eBay.
That said, its rarity means the market price is quite high. I’ll refrain from mentioning the exact amount here, but anyone curious is welcome to look it up themselves.
In fact, I had known for quite some time that this coin was listed for sale. But the price was steep enough that I hesitated for a long time before taking the plunge.
Nonetheless, one of my personal goals for 2025 was to “collect more overseas coins.” I made steady progress toward that goal, and as I approached near-completion—just a few coins away—the final obstacle that stood before me was this Roserade metal coin.
I also understood that, over time, the price was far more likely to rise than fall. So, in the end, I made up my mind and decided to purchase it.
It may indeed have been expensive. But the joy of finally completing all five metal coins distributed at that event was worth far more than the amount I paid.
And needless to say—this Roserade coin now holds the record as the most expensive single coin I have ever purchased.
The shock caused by the announcement of the “收集啦151硬币套装” is something I discuss in detail later in the section titled “The Most Surprising Pokémon Coin News of the Year,” so please take a look at that as well.
Here, I would like to talk about what happened behind the scenes—in other words, just how much work was actually involved.
At the time of writing this, I have already completed the “望” and “惊” series, and have acquired about half of the Secret coins, all of which are now published on my site.
Of course, obtaining the coins themselves was difficult. But the task that was even more challenging was publishing all of these coins on the website.
Each series contains 453 coins excluding the Secret ones.
Uploading every single one of them is a task that requires far more time and effort than most people might imagine.
To give you a clearer picture, let me explain the workflow I use when adding Pokémon coins to my site.
First, I take a photo of the coin placed on my palm.
There are several reasons for this. One is to show the Holofoil pattern more clearly by adjusting the angle—something that is often hard to convey with a straight-on shot. Another is to demonstrate that I personally own the coin, ensuring that the information I publish is trustworthy and firsthand.
Next comes the 360-degree rotation photography.
I set up a turntable and coin stand inside a light box, and take 24 photos while rotating the coin little by little.
Then I place the coin on a scanner and capture one top-down image each of the front and back.
This completes the photography stage, but if there are any related inserts or accessories, I photograph those separately as well.
Once all the photos are taken, it’s time for image editing.
I adjust the size, brightness, and crop the images, polishing them so they meet the quality standards required for publication.
After the images are ready, I move on to writing the article.
Using a prepared template, I insert the images and write the relevant information about each coin. When the draft is complete, I review it, publish the article, then perform a final check after it goes live.
In other words, when it comes to the “收集啦151硬币套装” series, I must repeat this entire process 453 times.
Naturally, this is a hobby I love and choose to do, so I have no complaints. But it is equally true that the work can be exhausting both mentally and physically.
For the “望” series, I acquired the coins gradually over time, so I published them at a steady pace. However, for “惊,” I acquired all 453 coins at once, and that made me wonder:
If I did this work continuously, how long would it actually take?
So I decided to find out. I pushed all other work aside and spent my days doing nothing but this task from morning until night.
But humans are not machines. No matter how focused I was, my limit was about eight hours of work per day.
After repeating this routine, the total time required turned out to be nine days.
Those nine days were incredibly fulfilling as a collector, yet at the same time, I reached a point where I thought, “I don’t want to see another Pokémon coin for a while…”
And now, the “聚” series is still not in my hands.
Which means—another nine-day adventure awaits me.

海外コレクターとの印象的なエピソード/Memorable Episodes with Overseas Collectors
The meetup I had on August 3, 2025, with Carl—a Pokémon coin collector from the United States who lives on Tanegashima—was truly unforgettable.
I had actually met Carl once before, on January 4 of the same year, making this our second meetup. The first time, we exchanged coins in a fairly “classic” collector-to-collector trade. But this time, he told me that he would be giving me a 3D-printed coin case and a 3D-printed coin that he made himself.
I had long known that Carl creates various items using a 3D printer and shares his work online. When we first met, he was carrying one of his original coin cases, and I remember thinking how beautifully made it was—and secretly wishing that one day I could own one myself.
So when he said he would be giving one to me, I found myself eagerly counting down the days until our meetup.
And indeed, the coin case he gave me was even more impressive than I had imagined. But the biggest surprise was the coin he had 3D-printed: it was a coin from the mobile game Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket—better known as “PokéPoké.”
To hold a coin that exists only inside the game in physical form, right there in the palm of my hand— I was genuinely moved.
I gave Carl several Pokémon coins as a thank-you gift, but even so, what I received from him felt far more valuable. It remains a cherished memory for me.
PokéPoké continues to add new coins within the game, so I’m also excited to see how Carl’s 3D-printed collection will grow in the future.

The 3rd ANNIVERSARY metal coin is considered nothing short of legendary among Pokémon coin collectors.
Its existence is relatively well-known, but because it was distributed exclusively to staff members back in 1999, acquiring one today—over 25 years later—is virtually impossible. Information available online is sparse, and for a long time I relied only on an old post I had seen on X, using it as a clue while continuing to ask for information on my website.
Then, on July 16, 2025, something remarkable happened. Someone reached out to me on X saying, “I have information about this coin.”
As we continued talking through DM, I learned something even more surprising: this person actually owned the coin. And as it turned out, the coin was only one part of a larger distribution package titled “3rd ANNIVERSARY GOODS,” which also included items such as a letter, a wristwatch, a playmat, and a deck case.
They were incredibly kind and cooperative. I hesitantly asked whether they might be willing to provide photos for my website—and to my amazement, they agreed without hesitation. They even sent me beautiful, high-quality images right away.
Using those photos, I immediately wrote an article and published it on my site.
Thanks to this contribution, the mysteries surrounding this coin and its related items—shrouded for decades—were finally brought into the light. It was, without question, a historic and unforgettable day for the Pokémon coin community.
After I shared the article and expressed my gratitude, they responded with these warm words:
“If I was able to help a collector who pursues this hobby with such passion, then I’m honored. I’ll continue to support you quietly from the sidelines.”
Their kindness truly touched me. I would like to take this opportunity to once again express my deepest gratitude.

To learn this new fact nearly four years after the product’s release was truly astonishing, and it once again reminded me of just how deep and intricate the world of Pokémon coins can be.
I should also mention that I learned about this thanks to information shared by an American collector friend with whom I regularly exchange knowledge.
It reaffirmed for me that the most valuable thing a collector can have is the support and insight of fellow collectors.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude here.
The Chinese release “收集啦151硬币套装” (“Collect 151 Coin Set”) sent shockwaves through Pokémon coin collectors around the world.
I still vividly remember the sense of despair I felt when I first learned the details.
All 151 Generation 1 Pokémon would be turned into coins. Up to this point, it was exciting news.
But then came the real punch: each coin would come in three colors plus one secret color, for a total of four variations.
151 × 4 = 604. In other words, 604 new Pokémon coins would suddenly be added to the world.
As a collector, the arrival of new coins is always a joy. But considering that the total number of Japanese Pokémon coins is still only around 400, it’s easy to imagine how overwhelming that 604 sounded—almost like a physical blow.
And the despair didn’t stop there. The secret color coin had a pull rate of one per 100 boxes—a 1% chance.
For collectors like me who ultimately aim for full completion, this number practically screamed “impossible.”
There were two versions of the “收集啦151硬币套装”: the standard version at around 800 yen, and the EX version at around 1,800 yen. Even if you exclude the secret coins and aim for only the 453 regular coins, the minimum cost would already reach around 400,000 yen. Add the secret coins using probability math, and the total skyrockets to around 12 million yen.
No amount of money would ever feel like enough.
And then, even more shocking news emerged later on. Everything mentioned so far applied only to the first series, titled “望”. It was eventually revealed that “望” was part of a three-series lineup, followed by “惊” and “聚”.
Thankfully, all three series shared the same secret coins, so the total number of secrets did not increase. However:
“惊” added another 453 coins, and “聚” added yet another 453 coins, bringing the total increase to 906 additional coins.
This meant the entire “收集啦151硬币套装” series would consist of 1,510 coins in total.
That is roughly 1.5 times the total number of Pokémon coins that existed worldwide up to that point.
I still remember talking with collector friends around the world, sighing together over how overwhelming the numbers were. For once, the despair outweighed the excitement of new releases.
Of course, you may be wondering what happened after that.
As of the time of writing, I have completed both “望” and “惊”, and have obtained about half of the secret coins, all of which are now documented on my site. I have not yet acquired “聚”, but I do have a reliable source, so it is already guaranteed—I plan to publish it on the site as soon as it arrives.
In terms of cost, I have fortunately been able to obtain the coins at far lower prices than the original retail estimates. Since the secondary market is governed by supply and demand, prices have gradually been dropping.
Still, the recent momentum of China’s Pokémon-related market is truly staggering. To be honest, when it comes to “收集啦151硬币套装”, my genuine reaction was: “Please… spare me!”
And yet, who knows what might happen in 2026. Part of me is already bracing for something even more astonishing to appear.
In this article, I looked back on the year 2025 for Pokémon Coin Fan from a variety of perspectives. What I’ve written here represents only the most memorable moments—there were countless other experiences that made this year truly fulfilling.
I would now like to share some thoughts on my plans and expectations for 2026.
At present, I have nearly completed full collections of coins from Japan, the United States, and Europe. The major challenge that remains is Korean Pokémon coins. I have been requesting information and potential trades through X and Instagram, but progress has been slow, and I continue to face difficulties.
In 2026, I plan to try new approaches, explore additional avenues, and work hard not only to acquire these coins but also to share any findings through this website.
Another major trend in 2025 was the significant activity in the Chinese market, particularly centered around the “收集啦151硬币套装” series. And that momentum is likely to continue in 2026. It would not be surprising if an even greater number of Pokémon coins were released.
Collecting everything will require both time and financial resources, but if this past year has taught me anything, it’s that with the right strategy, even the seemingly impossible can become achievable. I hope to apply that experience and continue delivering valuable information to all of you.
Finally, a few words about the broader Pokémon landscape. The most recent mainline title, Scarlet & Violet, was released in 2022, and based on past patterns, it would not be surprising for the 10th generation to debut soon. Considering the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, the likelihood feels even higher.
A new Pokémon generation would, of course, have a direct impact on Pokémon coins. Historically, each new generation has featured coins of the three starter Pokémon, so we can reasonably expect the same this time as well.
With that in mind, I look toward 2026 with the hope that it will be not only a “Pokémon year,” but also a “Pokémon coin year.”
