Some of these errors are simply regarded as manufacturing inconsistencies, while others attract attention as rare and desirable pieces among collectors.

However, there is currently a lack of systematically organized information regarding how to identify these errors, what causes them, and how they are valued in the market.

In this article, we will classify the major types of error coins that have been identified to date, and provide a detailed examination of their characteristics, possible causes, and their evaluation within the collector market.

ホロのつなぎ目が見えている個体/Coins with Visible Holofoil Seams

コイン表面に施されているホロ加工は、製造工程の都合上、素材のつなぎ目が発生する場合があります。

通常は目立たないように処理されることが想定されますが、そのまま表面に現れてしまっている個体も確認されています。

この現象は厳密には製造仕様の範囲内と捉えることも可能ですが、本来意図された発色やホロ表現とは異なる仕上がりとなっている点を考慮し、当サイトではエラーコインとして扱っています。

Due to the nature of the manufacturing process, the holographic layer applied to the surface of coins may occasionally contain visible seams where the material joins.

While these seams are typically minimized, there are instances where they remain clearly visible on the finished product.

Strictly speaking, this may fall within manufacturing tolerances rather than being a true “error.” However, since the final appearance differs from the intended color and holographic effect, this site classifies such coins as error coins.

実際に確認されている個体では、特にゴールドレインボーホロのコインにおいて、この傾向が比較的強く見られます。

発生頻度も一定数確認されていること、また外観上の評価が高くないことから、コレクター市場においては通常品と同等、あるいはそれ以下の価格帯で取引されるケースが多いようです。

Among the examples observed, this phenomenon appears more prominently in Gold Rainbow Holofoil coins.

Because it occurs with some frequency and is generally considered less visually appealing, these coins tend to be traded at or below the price of standard versions in the collector market.

ホロが途切れている個体/Coins with Incomplete Holofoil Coverage

本来、コイン表面全体に均一に施されるはずのホロ加工が、途中で途切れてしまい、下地である黒い素材が露出している個体も存在します。

本記事執筆時点では、筆者自身は当該個体を所持しておらず、具体的な画像を掲載することはできませんが、海外の二次流通市場において散見される事例です。

見た目としては、経年劣化や外的要因によってホロが剥離した個体と区別がつきにくいため、コレクターからの評価は高くありません。

そのため、市場価格も通常品と同等、もしくはそれ以下で取引される傾向にあります。

In some cases, the holographic layer—intended to cover the entire surface of the coin—is partially missing, exposing the black base material beneath.

At the time of writing, I do not personally own an example of this type and therefore cannot provide images.

However, such coins are occasionally seen in overseas secondary markets.

Since their appearance is nearly indistinguishable from coins where the holofoil has worn off due to external factors, collector demand is relatively low.

As a result, they are often traded at or below the value of standard coins.

裏面が半透明になっている個体/Coins with Translucent Backs

ポケモンコインの裏面は、一般的に黒色の不透明素材で統一されていますが、例外的に半透明の状態となっている個体が確認されています。

筆者の所有するゲノセクトのコインがその一例であり、またコレクターからはアローラライチュウのコインでも同様の事例が報告されています。

The reverse side of Pokémon coins is typically made from opaque black material.

However, there are rare cases where the back appears translucent instead.

One such example is a Genesect coin in my collection, and similar cases have been reported by other collectors, including an Alolan Raichu coin.

この現象については、射出成形の過程においてプラスチックへ十分な量の染料が注入されなかったことが原因ではないかという見解が示されています。

結果として、本来不透明であるべき素材が半透明の状態で成形された可能性が考えられます。

流通数が極めて少なく、認知度も高くないため市場価格の相場は不明瞭ですが、希少性の観点からコレクターにとっては非常に魅力的なエラーの一つと言えるでしょう。

A plausible explanation is related to the injection molding process: insufficient dye may have been mixed into the plastic, resulting in a translucent rather than opaque finish.

Due to their extremely limited circulation and low level of recognition, it is difficult to determine a clear market value.

However, from a collector’s perspective, these coins are highly intriguing and desirable error variants.

異なるコインのホロが使用されている個体/Coins Featuring Holofoil Patterns from Other Coins

特に日本国内で流通したコインについては、これまでに登場した仕様が高い精度で整理されているため、既存仕様との比較によりエラーの判別が比較的容易です。

Japanese-released coins are relatively well-documented, making it easier to identify deviations from known specifications and classify them as error coins.

具体例としては、クサイハナ由来のグリーンスペクルホロが使用されたライチュウのコイン、エースバーン由来のレッドミラーホロが用いられたザシアンのコイン、さらにイーブイ由来のブラウンクラックドアイスホロが確認されているブラッキーのコインなどが挙げられます。

Examples include a Raichu coin featuring a Green Speckle Holofoil (originating from Gloom), a Zacian coin with a Red Mirror Holofoil (from Cinderace), and an Umbreon coin with a Brown Cracked Ice Holofoil (from Eevee).

また、イエロースプロッチホロのラッキーコインに関する報告も存在しますが、このホロは既存のいずれのコインにも確認されておらず、その発生経緯は現時点で不明となっています。

There have also been reports of a Chansey coin with a Yellow Splotch Holofoil.

However, since this holofoil pattern has not been observed on any other known coin, its origin remains unclear.

一方で、海外版コインについては流通経路や製造背景が不透明なものも多く、新たに発見される個体も少なくありません。

In contrast, overseas coins are often more difficult to verify due to unclear distribution channels and the continued discovery of previously undocumented variants.

ホワイトキュレム、フーパ、デオキシスなどのコインについては現在も情報提供を募っていますが、長期間にわたり確定的な情報が得られていないことから、エラーコインである可能性が高いと考えられます。

Coins such as White Kyurem, Hoopa, and Deoxys are currently under investigation, with information still being collected.
